About us

We dive deep into the ocean of communication, exploring how media and society intertwine.

How do we weave meaning into our daily lives? What ripple effects do new technologies create in our shared existence? Our curiosity fuels our growth.

History and Information about the Faculty

The Faculty of Social Communication and Media launched on September 1, 2024. It arose from the merging of two long-standing institutes: the Institute of Journalism and Social Communication and the Institute of Information and Media Studies, both once part of the Faculty of Letters.

With nearly 2,500 eager minds, students embark on journeys through seven diverse programs, including English offerings and flexible study modes – full-time and part-time. The Doctoral School of Social Communication and Media at the University of Wrocław nurtures scholarly pursuits.

Our academic staff, a powerhouse of expertise, earned an “A” category from the Ministry of Education and Science for stellar research. Over 80 dedicated faculty members lead the charge in information science, media, journalism, and communication.

Behind the scenes, our libraries, secretariats, and dean’s office work tirelessly, ensuring smooth daily operations.

Mission and Development Strategy of the Faculty

Our development strategy aligns with the University of Wrocław’s mission for 2021-2030. This mission inspires us to seek truth, share knowledge, and cultivate culture. We aim to mold open-minded individuals ready to thrive locally and globally, embracing change and diversity while cherishing national and regional identities. We strive for balanced scientific research, both foundational and applied.

 According to the adopted strategy, the university’s mission is to:

• Seek truth, share knowledge, and nurture culture;
• Build social and intellectual capital by shaping open-minded individuals prepared to act locally and globally, adapt to a changing world, accept diversity, and understand the importance of national and regional identity;
• Conduct scientific research in a free, complete, and open manner, maintaining a balance between basic and applied research.

The future of the Faculty hinges on the collective effort of our vibrant community—academic staff, doctoral candidates, students, and the diligent administrative and library teams.

The Faculty of Social Communication and Media primarily aims to:
• Improve the quality of education in all of its study programs, doctoral studies, and postgraduate studies,
• Enhance its scientific position in Poland in the field of social communication and media studies,
• Increase its impact on the social environment through its scientific research, educational, and popularization activities, and its involvement in building a knowledge-based society.
