
Diploma examination
In accordance with Ordinance No. 1/2025 of the Dean of the Faculty of Social Communication and Media of the University of Wrocław of 22 January 2025, diploma examinations at the Faculty of Social Communication and Media are conducted in the following months: March, June, July and September.
The detailed rules concerning degree theses and diploma examinations for students of first-cycle and second-cycle studies are defined in Resolution No. 29/2025 of the Council of the Faculty of Social Communication and Media of the University of Wrocław of 23 September 2025 on the detailed conditions for completing first-cycle and second-cycle studies and on degree theses and diploma examinations at the Faculty of Social Communication and Media of the University of Wrocław.
First-Cycle Studies
Preparation of the BA Thesis
- the thesis is completed independently by the student under the supervision of the thesis supervisor,
- minimum length: 50,000 characters including spaces,
- the thesis must include an abstract (up to 4,000 characters), keywords (up to 1,000 characters), and a title page in Polish and English,
- the degree thesis may take the form of a written or a project-based thesis,
- a project thesis should contain: an introduction, theoretical section, project section, and a conclusion describing the research methods and tools used,
- template for the BA thesis title page must be used.
Diploma Examination (BA)
The diploma examination includes:
a) an oral presentation of the degree thesis not exceeding five minutes
(the presentation should cover: the thesis title, aim of the thesis, scope, sources, key concepts, research methods used, most important bibliographic items, organisation of the research or analyses carried out, presentation of the main findings and the most significant conclusions; the presentation is oral),
b) a discussion of the thesis, including at least one question asked by the reviewer related to the thesis,
c) verification of the level of knowledge and skills within the field of study and/or completed specialisation.
During the diploma examination, the student must answer two questions chosen from among the areas/topics specified, approved by the Institute Council, and published on the Institute’s website no later than 30 June of the academic year preceding the year in which the examination is scheduled.
Each member of the examination board may ask additional questions in order to verify the student’s knowledge within the scope of the chosen questions.
During the diploma examination, the student may not use any data carriers or personal electronic devices.
Additional Requirements (BA)
- the thesis is subject to anti-plagiarism checking,
- BA thesis topics are approved by the relevant Institute Council and made available to students via publication on the Institute website no later than one semester before the planned completion of studies,
- the diploma examination may be conducted using electronic means of communication, in accordance with the guidelines in force at the University of Wrocław, including tools ensuring in particular:
- real-time transmission of the meeting between its participants,
- real-time multilateral communication allowing all participants to speak during the meeting, while ensuring necessary security measures.
Remote examination requires the Dean’s approval, granted upon a written request from the thesis supervisor. The supervisor is responsible for organising the diploma examination on the MS Teams platform.
Second-Cycle Studies
Preparation of the MA Thesis
- the thesis is completed independently by the student under the supervision of the thesis supervisor,
- recommended minimum length: approximately 100,000 characters including spaces,
- the thesis must include an abstract (up to 4,000 characters), keywords (up to 1,000 characters), and a title page in Polish and English,
- the thesis may not replicate or duplicate the BA thesis,
- the degree thesis may take the form of a written or a project-based thesis,
- a project thesis should contain: an introduction, theoretical section, project section combining theory with practice, and a conclusion describing the research methods and tools used,
- the template for the MA thesis title page must be used.
Diploma Examination (MA)
The diploma examination includes:
a) an oral presentation of the degree thesis not exceeding five minutes
(the presentation should cover: the thesis title, aim, scope, sources, key concepts, research methods used, major bibliographic items, organisation of the research or analyses, identification of key findings and presentation of the final conclusions; the presentation is oral),
b) a discussion of the thesis, including at least one question asked by the reviewer related to the thesis,
c) verification of knowledge and skills within the field of study and/or completed specialisation.
As in the BA examination, the student must answer two questions chosen from the areas/topics specified, approved by the Institute Council, and published on the Institute’s website no later than 30 June of the preceding academic year.

- the diploma examination may be conducted using electronic means of communication, in accordance with the guidelines in force at the University of Wrocław, including tools ensuring in particular:

- real-time multilateral communication allowing all participants to speak during the meeting, while ensuring necessary security measures.
